Brioche des rois
Today I went in downtown Cannes and saw many nice galettes des rois in different flavours. I wanted one, a chocolate one!, but after my shopping, at lunchtime, ALL galettes were gone. 🙁
Luckily enough, a few minutes before, a lady in a boulangerie made me taste their brioche des rois: it was amazingly good and very soft, so I went back there and brought one home.
The brioche des rois (“brioche of the kings”) is another Epiphany cake, typical of the south of France, unlike the galette des rois, which comes originally from the North.
It is quite straightforward the this donut-shaped brioche recalls a king’s crown, with precious gems on top as well (i.e. candied fruits).
After having tasted both, I can say that for me the soft brioche wins on the dry galette! 🙂
Maybe I will try this weekend to make the brioche dough… (it is also required for my pastry exam!)
